Biography

Sister Johh are a Scottish indie-rock band who blend the warmth of folk-rock with the laid-back vibes of classic indie. Hailing from Glasgow, the band’s evocative melodies, rich harmonies, and intimate songwriting have earned them a place in the heart of Scotland’s music scene. Drawing on influences ranging from 1960s folk to 1970s rock, as well as contemporary indie sounds, Sister John’s music is as timeless as it is modern, capturing the essence of both personal introspection and wide-eyed optimism. Made up of four multi-instrumentalists—Amanda McKeown (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Lilley (guitars, keys), Sophie Pragnell (drums, viola), and Heather Phillips (violin, bass)—the band formed in 2016 and released their debut folk-led album, Returned from Sea, in 2017. They have since added to their discography with studio albums such as Sister John (2019), I Am by Day (2021), and Don't Worry, It's Forever (2025), experimenting with a folk-rock and indie-rock palette.
