Biography
Midlake, an American folk rock band from Denton, Texas, was formed in 1999 by jazz students at the University of North Texas College of Music. Their initial work under the name The Cornbread All-Stars was heavily influenced by funk/jazz explorations. Midlake's debut EP Milkmaid Grand Army was released in 2001, followed by their first full-length album Bamnan and Slivercork in 2004. The band gained popularity in Europe, signing to Bella Union Records and playing at festivals such as Les Inrockuptibles and South by Southwest. Their second album The Trials of Van Occupanther, released in 2006, featured a classic-rock revivalism sound reminiscent of Bob Welch-era Fleetwood Mac. In February 2010, Midlake released The Courage of Others. Following the departure of Tim Smith in 2012, Eric Pulido took over as lead vocalist and primary songwriter. The band continued with the release of Antiphon on ATO Records in 2013. Midlake's fifth full-length album, For the Sake of Bethel Woods, was released in March 2022, followed three years later by A Bridge to Far.
