Biography
The brainchild of singer-songwriter Ben Schneider (vocals, guitar), Lord Huron are an American indie folk and rock band from Los Angeles. Schneider began performing under the name Lord Huron in 2010 and recorded the EPs Into the Sun (2010), Mighty (2010), and Time to Run (2012) as a solo artist. By the time their debut album Lonesome Dreams came out in October 2012, Lord Huron had become a full-fledged band with the addition of drummer Mark Barry, bassist, keyboardist Miguel Briseño, and guitarist Tom Renaud. Lonesome Dreams debuted at Number 5 on Billboardâs Heatseekers Albums Chart and spawned a series of Western-inspired accompanying videos inspired by Michael Ondaatjeâs 1970 pulp fiction novel The Collected Works of Billy the Kid: Left-Handed Poems. Lord Huron followed up in 2015 with Strange Trails, which garnered positive reviews and topped Billboardâs Folk Albums chart. âThe Night We Met,â one of the albumâs singles, was certified platinum by the RIAA and featured in series such as 13 Reasons Why, and later remixed by Phoebe Bridgers. Following the release of the singles âAncient Namesâ and âWait by the River,â their third LP Vide Noir (French for âBlack Voidâ) saw the light in 2018 and also rose to the top of the US Folk Albums Chart, selling over 28,000 copies. After a series of live-stream shows titled Alive from Whispering Pines amidst the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, Lord Huron dropped their fourth full-length Long Lost in 2021. The album topped Billboardâs Folk Albums chart once again and earned the band their first Number 1 hit with the single âNot Dead Yetâ. Another single from the LP, âI Liedâ, featured Allison Ponthier. In 2023 was released their first soundtrack score for the film The Starling Girl. After Canadian and US tours with Leith Ross and Kacey Musgraves, the band released the single âWho Laughs Lastâ, a duet with the actress Kristen Stewart, followed by âNothing I Needâ, âLooking Backâ, and âBag of Bonesâ, ahead of the album The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 (2025), also featuring Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino on âFire Eternal.â
