Wojtek the Bear is a Scottish indie rock band formed in Glasgow in 2016. The bandâs name comes from a bear cub trained to fight by Polish soldiers during World War II, before ending its life at the Edinburgh Zoo. Composed of Tam Killean (vocals), Becky Cheminals (violin), Graham Norris (guitar), Paul Kirkwood (bass), and Martin McClements (drums), the band built its reputation on stage and released its first self-produced album, *A Talent for Being Unreasonable*, in 2018. In 2021, after signing with the label Last Night from Glasgow, Wojtek the Bear released their second album, *Heaven by the Back Door*, which was reissued three years later, coinciding with the release of their third album, *Shaking Hands with the NME*âa title that takes an ironic jab at the famous magazine. With its pop-rock melodies and post-punk energy, the quintetâthen working with producer Stephen Streetâenriched its sound with trumpet, vibraphone, and slide guitar. In 2026, Wojtek the Bear recorded their fourth album, *I Donât Think You Want to Hear This*, with Bill Ryder-Jones on piano and at the mixing console.
