Biography

Born on 27 October 1991 in Edinburgh, Scottish indie singer-songwriter Hamish Hawk is known for dousing his songwriting in buckets of acid-sharp wit. Armed with a crooning baritone voice, he poured baroque pop, rock, and folk influences into his debut EP Moon Out West, released under his full name Hamish James Hawk via indie label Common Records. His solo full-length, Aznavour, arrived in 2014; the same year he graduated from the University of St Andrews. A few years later, he formed Hamish Hawk & the New Outfit with a backup band and released From Zero to One (2018) and the Laziest River EP in 2019. After dropping the "James" from his stage name, he unveiled his first album as Hamish Hawk, Heavy Elevator, in 2021. The follow-up, Angel Numbers, came two years later. Both albums were critically acclaimed and shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award in 2022 and 2023. Between the releases of Covers and Covers II EPs, he put out his third album, A Firmer Hand, in August 2024. The LP was produced by Jones at Post Electric Studios and released via So Recordings and Fierce Panda. In 2025, Hamish Hawk followed up with a limited vinyl LP paying tribute to the eccentric poet Ivor Cutler, Life in a Scotch Sitting Room, Vol.0.
