Demetrius Lee Stewart, known professionally as Shawty Redd, and born on June 21, 1981, is an American record producer and rapper. Shawty Redd has been cited as one of the pioneers of the production style which would become synonymous with the trap subgenre. His traditional trap style, characterized by ominous, horror-influenced melodies and chord progressions, can be heard in his production on Trap House (2005) and Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 (2005). Shawty Redd also composed melodic instrumentals similar to his work on Snoop Dogg's "Sensual Seduction" (2007). In 2009, he released his debut album The Redd Light. In 2010, Shawty Redd shot and killed long-term collaborator Damon Martin at Redd's house in Atlanta. He was charged with murder but acquitted after the judge ruled that Redd acted in self-defense.
