Wardell Raymond Cheeks, known professionally as Ray Cash, was born on January 14, 1980, in Cleveland, Ohio. He began his music career in high school, performing freestyle raps with friends. After seeing Jay-Z perform during the Hard Knock Life tour, Cash decided to pursue a professional rap career. In 2005, he released his first singles, "Sex Appeal (Pimp in My own mind)" and "Smokin' & Leanin'", which gained local radio play. His debut album, Cash on Delivery (2006), was released under Sony Urban Music/Columbia and reached number 41 on the Billboard 200. The album featured the hit single "Sex Appeal" and the collaboration with Scarface entitled "Bumpin' My Music", which peaked at number 56 on the Billboard charts. He released his second album, Rosé Ray (2009).
