Biography

Randy Matthews, born May 7, 1950 in Lamar, Missouri, is an American singer. He started his career as a member of The Zionaires, a quartet founded by his father Monty Matthews. In 1971, Randy Matthews signed with Word Records and released his debut album Wish We'd All Been Ready. His second album, All I Am Is What You See..., led to the creation of Myrrh Records, dedicated to the Jesus movement. Throughout the 1970s, Matthews released notable albums including Son Of Dust (1973) and Eyes To The Sky (1975). His music often pushed boundaries, notably at The Jesus Festival in 1974 where his rock-oriented performance was met with controversy. He continued to release albums such as "Streets of Mercy" (1987) and has performed under the stage name Red Beard since the late 2000s, releasing an album titled Red Beard Pirate King.
