Daniel Band, a Canadian Christian metal group, was formed in 1979 in Toronto and included guitarist and vocalist Tony Rossi and bass player Dan McCabe. The band originated from Bendale Bible Chapel in Scarborough, Ontario, which held a weekly coffeehouse that featured Christian rock groups. Their breakthrough came when they were among the three finalists in the 1982 Homegrown concert sponsored by Toronto radio station Q107. Daniel Band released their debut album On Rock in 1982, followed by Straight Ahead (1983), Run From Darkness (1984), and Rise Up (1986). Their sound evolved from progressive rock to heavy metal, incorporating elements of bands like Rush, Triumph, and Iron Maiden. The band held a "farewell concert" in Toronto in April 1988, but continued with various projects and reunions over the years. Notable performances include the Cornerstone Festival in Illinois (2000) and Audio Adrenaline's farewell tour in Toronto (2006). Daniel Band received the GMA Canada Lifetime Achievement Award in October 2011, recognizing their pioneering influence on Christian rock.
