Biography

Michael Anthony Maida, born 18 February 1970 in Weston, Ontario, is a Canadian singer, songwriter and guitarist best known as the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Our Lady Peace. After studying criminology at the University of Toronto and attending Ridley College, Raine Maida co‑founded Our Lady Peace in 1992 with guitarist Mike Turner, and the duo released their debut Naveed in 1994. The band achieved mainstream success with Clumsy (1997) and Happiness… Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch (1999), the latter producing the single "Superman’s Dead" that reached the Canadian Top 40. Raine Maida’s solo career began with the Love Hope Hero EP (2006) and the full‑length The Hunters Lullaby (2007), featuring the single "Yellow Brick Road." He followed up by the single "Bury Me with a Gun" (2010) and the album We All Get Lighter (2013). Throughout his career he has collaborated with Chantal Kreviazuk (his wife since 1999), Avril Lavigne, and Kelly Clarkson, among others, and has received humanitarian awards, including the Order of Canada in 2014.
