Biography
Moist is a Canadian rock band formed in 1992, consisting of David Usher on vocals, Mark Makoway and Jonathan Gallivan on guitars, Kevin Young on keyboards, Francis Fillion on drums, and Jeff Pearce on bass. The group originated from Ontario but came together in Vancouver, where they began writing songs in November 1992 and played their first gig two months later. In 1993, Moist recorded a demo tape at the 8th Avenue Sound Studio, which reached Number 1 on Sam the Record Man's local independent chart. The band signed with EMI Music Publishing Canada and released their debut album Silver in February 1994, which sold almost 6,000 records within six weeks. Moist gained success with singles such as "Push" and "Believe Me", leading to the album selling over 400,000 copies in Canada. The band won the Juno Award for Best New Group in 1995. Their second album Creature was released in late 1996, featuring hits like "Leave It Alone" and "Resurrection". In early 1999, Moist released their third album Mercedes Five and Dime, which included singles such as "Breathe" and "Underground". The band went on hiatus in 2001 after releasing a compilation album titled Machine Punch Through: The Sinngles Collection and did not perform again until their reunion tour in November 2013. Moist released their fourth studio album, Glory Under Dangerous Skies, in 2014. Seven years later, they followed with End of the Ocean.
