Biography

David Usher, born on April 24, 1966, in Oxford, England, is a Canadian musician, author, speaker, and activist. He spent his early years moving between various countries before settling in Kingston, Ontario. While studying at Simon Fraser University, Usher formed the band Moist, serving as the principal songwriter and vocalist. The band's debut album Silver was released in 1994 and achieved quadruple-platinum status in Canada. Their sophomore album, Creature, followed in 1996, reaching triple-platinum status. Usher began his solo career in 1998 with the release of Little Songs. He continued to release solo albums throughout the 2000s and 2010s, including Morning Orbit (2001), Hallucinations (2003), If God Had Curves (2005), Strange Birds (2007), Wake Up and Say Goodbye (2008), Songs from the Last Day on Earth (2012), and Let It Play (2016). Canadian hit singles including "Forestfire" (number 27 in 1998), "Black Black Heart" (number 3 in 2001), "Time of Our Lives" (number 16 in 2003), and "The Music" (number 17 in 2007). Notable collaborations include works with Gord Sinclair of The Tragically Hip, Marie-Mai, and Bruce Cockburn. In 2013, Moist returned from a hiatus to record their fourth studio album, Glory Under Dangerous Skies. Usher's solo career has seen him release albums in English, French, and Thai, selling over 1.4 million albums and winning four Juno Awards. He is also the founder of Reimagine AI, an artificial intelligence creative studio based out of Montreal. In 2024, Usher returned with the single "Run to the Sea".
