Biography

Pleasure was an American band from Portland, Oregon. Formed in 1972 as a merger of two local bands, The Franchise and The Soul Masters, Pleasure initially included members Bruce Carter, Nathaniel Phillips, and Marlon McClain. In 1974, Grover Washington directed them to seek out Wayne Henderson of The Crusaders, leading to a deal with Fantasy Records. Under Henderson's production through At Home Productions, Pleasure released their breakthrough album Future Now in 1979, which featured the hit "Glide." This song reached Number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 10 on the Best Selling Soul Singles chart. The band achieved national recognition and excellent record sales, with their music being sampled by numerous hip-hop artists. Notable samples include Bruce Carter’s drum solo on "Bouncy Lady" for the Ultimate Breaks and Beats series, along with "Joyous" and "Future Now." Pleasure disbanded in 1982, but many members remained active in the music industry. In 2019, a new version of the band re-formed and released an album titled Now Is The Time.
