Paulo Morello, born Cornelius Paul Schmidkunz on October 7, 1970, in Burglengenfeld, Germany, is a jazz guitarist, composer, and music producer. He started playing the recorder and violin before switching to electric guitar as a teenager. Morello studied at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuremberg, the Mannheim University of Music, and the New School in New York. His international career began in 2001 with the project Bossa Nova Legends, featuring collaborations with Leny Andrade and Johnny Alf, leading to tours across Europe and South America. Morello has released albums including Sambop (2018) and Living Is Easy, Mostly (2022). He has collaborated with musicians like Larry Coryell, Philip Catherine, and Randy Brecker. Morello has taught at the Nuremberg University of Music and in 2021 became artistic director of the Jazz Institute Berlin.
