Biography
Hector Martignon is a Colombian pianist and composer of Italian descent. He earned a bachelor's degree in Piano Performance at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and a master's from Manhattan School of Music, studying under Kenny Barron and Solomon Mikowsky. Martignon began his career backing Salsa singers like Celia Cruz and Ismael Miranda on European tours. His first recording was with Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis on his Canto General. In 1989, he moved to New York City and joined Ray Barretto's band, contributing to the Grammy-nominated album My Summertime (1995). Martignon started his solo career in 1996 with the release of Portrait in White and Black (1996). His albums Refugee (2007) and Second Chance (2010) were both nominated for Grammy Awards. He has also composed scores for the film Septimo Cielo and plays such as Ana en el Trópico and Cita a Ciegas.
