Biography

Helmut Kagerer, a German guitarist born on February 7, 1961 in Passau, began playing guitar as a teenager. He studied at the Jazz Schule München from 1980 to 1982 and later at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz from 1984 to 1986. In 1987, he formed a guitar duo with Helmut Nieberle, with whom he recorded albums including Wes Trane (1992). Kagerer has collaborated internationally with musicians such as Clark Terry and Arthur Blythe, and toured Germany with Attila Zoller in 1996. His recordings also include April in New York (1998) with Peter Bernstein. He and Nieberle received the Bavarian State Cultural Advancement Award in 1991, and their duo was honored with the Archtop Germany Award in 2007.
