Biography

Orlando Marin, born February 20, 1935, in the Bronx, New York, was a Latin percussionist known for his contributions to Latin jazz and mambo. He formed his first band, Eddie Palmieri and His Orchestra, in the early 1950s. Marin's early career included performances with various bands at the Palladium Ballroom. In 1954, he released his first composition, "My Mambo" on a 78 rpm record. Notable releases include Se Te Quemó La Casa (1961) and Saxophobia (1970). He was honored with several awards, including the Bobby Capó Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. Marin continued to perform regularly until his death on October 27, 2023, at the age of 88.
