My Vitriol, a British alternative rock band formed in 1999 in London, comprised singer and guitarist Som Wardner, drummer Ravi Kesavaram, guitarist Seth Taylor, and bassist Tatia Starkey. The band's origins trace back to when Wardner and Kesavaram, both of Sri Lankan origin, met at University College London (UCL) and began playing together. Their initial breakthrough came with the release of their debut single "Always Your Way" b/w "Pieces" on Org Records in December 1999. My Vitriol's first album, Finelines, was released in March 2001 and reached Number 24 in the UK Albums Chart. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Losing Touch", "Cemented Shoes", "Pieces", "Always: Your Way", and "Grounded", which peaked at Number 29 on the UK Singles Chart. Following extensive touring and festival appearances across Europe and Japan, My Vitriol signed to Epic in the US. The band's hiatus began in October 2002 after three years of touring. During this period, they recorded a cover of Elliott Smith's "Bottle Up & Explode!" and planned a second album with producer Colin Richardson. In January 2005, My Vitriol returned to the stage at O2 Academy Islington, London, debuting new material and releasing a live album titled Cast in Amber. The band continued to perform live through 2008 and 2009, including shows in Europe and Japan. In October 2016, they released their limited fanbase-only album The Secret Sessions, which was later made available on streaming services in September 2017.
