Mantissa, an Australian hard rock band formed in 1989 as Killing Time in Melbourne. The original lineup included Nina Grant on bass guitar and vocals, Chris Paine on guitar, Adam Pringle on lead vocals, and Arnie Prazz on drums. In February 1991, they released their first EP, Ruby's Mind, which reached the Top 100 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The band gained a significant following and signed to Red Eye Records. In August 1992, Killing Time changed their name to Mantissa due to naming conflicts with other bands. Their debut album, Mossy God, was released in October 1992 and peaked at number 47 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The band supported national tours by prominent acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pantera, and toured extensively in the US. Mantissa disbanded in 1996.
