Headpins, a Canadian hard rock band formed in the late 1970s, originated as a side project by Chilliwack members Ab Bryant and Brian MacLeod. The duo was impressed by Vancouver rock singer Denise McCann's vocal talents and invited her to join their new venture. Initially, Matt Frenette played drums for Headpins while Bernie Aubin drummed for Loverboy; within months, they swapped bands. Headpins began performing in the Vancouver area throughout 1981, quickly building a fan base. After McCann left at the end of that year, MacLeod brought in Darby Mills as lead vocalist.
Headpins released their debut album Turn It Loud in 1982, which went platinum and topped the charts for six weeks with the hit single "Don't It Make Ya Feel". Their second release, Line of Fire, was another multi-platinum success, featuring hits like "Just One More Time" and "Feel It (Feel My Body)". The band toured Europe with Whitesnake in 1984. In 1985, Headpins were part of ZZ Top's Afterburner Tour but were removed from the bill after performing an encore against instructions. Mills was fired in 1986 and replaced by Chrissy Steele. Brian MacLeod's brain cancer diagnosis led to a shift in the band's direction, with Steele's solo project resulting in hits like "Love You 'Til It Hurts" and "Love Don't Last Forever". Headpins continue to perform live with Ab Bryant and Bernie Aubin from the classic '80s lineup.
