Biography
Luke Combs was born on 2 March 1990 in Charlotte, North Carolina. From an early age, he pursued his two passions: American soccer and music. But it was for the latter that he dropped out of school, just a month before completing his four-year degree at Appalachian State University. Determined to pursue a career in country music, he delivered his first EP, The Way She Rides in February 2014, followed by a second that same year, Can I Get an Outlaw. The first thrill came with the release of the single "Hurricane" from his third EP, This One's For You. The track sold 15,000 copies in its first week. A first studio album followed, adopting the same name as the last EP, and success is just around the corner, with a top spot in the country charts. The five singles that followed were equally well received, including "Beautiful Crazy", his biggest hit. Against this favourable backdrop, he released The Prequel EP in 2019, all of whose tracks found their way onto the Billboard Country chart, most notably "Beer Never Broke My Heart", which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #22. As August 2019 marked the 44th week spent by his album This One's for You on the country charts, he announced the release of his second opus What You See Is What You Get, which hit stores in November and immediately struck #1 in the U.S., Australia and Canada. Growin' Up followed three years later, reaching #1 on the U.S. country charts, as well as #2 in the U.S., Australia and Canada. Highlights included "Doin' This" (#26 in the USA), "The Kind of Love We Make" (#8) and "Going, Going, Gone " (#23). The musician followed this up in 2023 with the album Gettin' Old (#2), where he covered Tracy Chapman with "Fast Car", which earned him a second place in the American charts. A year later, Luke Combs came back with a new studio album, Fathers & Sons, which reached #6 in the US charts and #14 in the UK. His single "The Man He Sees in Me" climbed to number 39 in the US while the song "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma", which featured on the soundtrack to the 2024 film Twisters, came in at number 23.
