Biography

Charles Edgar Walker Hayes was born on December 27, 1979 in Mobile, Alabama (USA). He moved to Nashville with his wife in 2005, hoping to break into the country music business. As a songwriter, he landed his first contract with Mercury Records, before quickly switching to Capitol Records. His first success came in 2010, with the single "Pants", which reached number 40 on the US country charts. In 2011, he managed to place "Why Wait for Summer" at No. 42. Both tracks appear on his debut album, Reason to Rhyme, released in 2011. Its successor, Boom, was released after six long years. Released in 2017, it reached No. 37 on the Billboard 200 and No. 6 on the US country charts, thanks in particular to tracks such as "You Broke Up with Me" (No. 9) and "Craig" (No. 59). In 2021, however, he performed even better, with his first No. 1 single on the country charts, "Fancy Like" (also No. 3 on the Billboard charts). The single is part of his third album, Country Stuff the Album, which also features "U Gurl" (#28) and "AA" (#21), as well as collaborations with MercyMe, Jake Owen, Carley Pearce and Lori McKenna.
