Biography

Born in Paradise, California, on September 19, 1985, country music singer-songwriter Nate Smith began making music at the encouragement of a local church youth leader. Inspired by artists like Garth Brooks, Tom Petty, and Fleetwood Mac, he learned to play guitar as a teenager and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at age 23, hoping to break into the music industry. Although he managed to sign a record deal with Word Records, Smith's career didn't take off and he returned home to California. After a fire destroyed his house in 2018, he wrote his hit single "One of These Days," which went viral online and led to several television appearances. Upon his return to Nashville, he scored another viral hit with 2019's "Wildfire" and signed with Sony Music Nashville for his major label debut, the single "Raised Up," released in 2021. Just a year later, his song "Whiskey on You" entered the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #43. His follow-up single, "World on Fire," peaked at #21 and was featured on his debut album, Nate Smith (2023). In 2024, his new single "Bulletproof" also appeared on the Through the Smoke EP, before a surprising collaboration with DJ Alesso on "I Like It." The album California Gold followed with Avril Lavigne's guest appearance on "Can You Die from a Broken Heart."
