Biography
Country singer Jimmie Allen was born on June 18, 1986, in Milton, Delaware. He left his home state in 2007 and relocated to Nashville, where he auditioned for American Idol's tenth season and briefly competed alongside fellow country singer Scotty McCreery. Jimmie Allen signed with Stoney Creek Records one decade later and released his self-titled debut EP that same year. His first full-length album, Mercury, followed in 2018, featuring a modern country sound influenced by pop and R&B. The album peaked at Number 11 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. Its lead single, "Best Shot," fared even better, climbing to Number 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and making Jimmie Allen the first African-American artist to score a chart-topping country hit with his debut single. The song also peaked at Number 1 in Canada. Allen's follow-up single, "Make Me Want To," was released in 2019 and became his second consecutive Number 1 in America. Like its predecessor, it was certified platinum. For his next project, Jimmie Allen teamed up with a number of heroes and contemporaries to record a seven-song EP of duets. Titled Bettie James, the collaborative EP was released in July 2020 and spawned a number of hits, including "Made For These" (featuring Tim McGraw), the Top 40 duet "This Is Us" (featuring Noah Cyrus), and the Top 40 crossover single "Good Times Roll" (featuring Nelly).
