Leslie Winer, born December 24, 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American singer and poet. She began her career as a fashion model before transitioning into music. In the mid-1980s, while living in London, Winer co-wrote "Just Call Me Joe" with Sinéad O'Connor for O'Connor's debut album The Lion and the Cobra, performing backup vocals. In 1988, she began recording under the name '©', recording her first song "Kind of Easy". Her debut album, Witch, was released in 1993, featuring collaborations with Jah Wobble and Kevin Mooney. The album gained cult status after being played by BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel. In 1991, she moved to Miami and recorded the albums 3 Bags Full and Spider.
