Laila El Khalifi, known professionally as Leila K, was born on 6 September 1971 in Gothenburg, Sweden. She is a Swedish singer of Moroccan descent who gained prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Leila K's musical journey began with her participation in rap battles during her teenage years, which led to her discovery by the duo Rob'n'Raz. In 1989, at just 17 years old, she released "Got To Get", a rap single that became an international hit and marked her breakthrough into the music industry. Following the success of "Got To Get", Leila K embarked on extensive tours across Europe and the United States. Her subsequent releases included the singles "Open Sesame" (1992) and "Electric" (1995), which solidified her status as a prominent figure in Eurodance. She collaborated with notable producers such as Denniz Pop and Max Martin, contributing to the album Carousel (1993). However, her career declined in the 1990s as the popularity of Eurodance waned.
