Biography

Doop was a Dutch electronic music project founded in 1989 by House producers Ferry Ridderhof and Peter Garnefski. The duo met while studying at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where they developed an interest in guitar playing and studio work. Before achieving success as Doop, Ridderhof and Garnefski released several tracks under various names such as Booby Trax, Wax Attack, Sugar 'N' Spice, and Vicious Delicious. Doop's breakthrough came with the release of their self-titled track "Doop" in 1993. The song, which sampled instrumental pieces from the Charleston music style of the 1920s, became a hit. It reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in March 1994 and held that position for three weeks. In the United States, "Doop" peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play Charts. The project's follow-up single, "Huckleberry Jam", attempted to replicate this success but failed to achieve similar chart performance. Doop released several albums including Circus Doop (1995) and Doop Mania – L’Album des remixes (2001). The group also released the EP The Doop Eepee in 2011, which included the single "My Chihuahua".
