Jam & Spoon is a German electronic duo founded in Frankfurt am Main in 1991. It consists of Rolf Ellmer (alias Jam El Mar) and Markus Löffel (alias Mark Spoon), often accompanied by the singer Plavka Lonich. Rolf Ellmer was born on December 3, 1960 in Karlsruhe; Markus Löffel was born on November 27, 1966 in Frankfurt and died on January 11, 2006 in Berlin. Stylistically, they are characterized by a mixture of trance, Eurodance, house and ambient. The duo released their first album Tripomatic Fairytales 2001 in 1991, and their first big club hit was in 1992 with the single "Stella". Their international breakthrough came in 1993 with "Right in the Night (Fall in Love with Music)" featuring Plavka, a song with a guitar melody and trance-like elements, which reached high chart positions in several countries. "Find Me (Odyssey to Anyoona)" followed in 1994, and in the same year the second album Tripomatic Fairytales 2002 was released, which, in contrast to the first album, was more ambient. 1995 sees another hit with "Angel (Ladadi O-Heyo)". In 1997, the duo released the album Kaleidoscope with the single "Kaleidoscope Skies", which was successful in several European countries. They later released the album Tripomatic Fairytales 3003 in 2004, on which they collaborated with artists such as Jim Kerr (Simple Minds), Rea Garvey, Dolores O'Riordan (The Cranberries), Tricky, Xavier Naidoo and Midge Ure. Jam & Spoon also perform under pseudonyms such as Tokyo Ghetto Pussy and Storm and create remixes for other artists such as Moby, Pet Shop Boys and Enigma. Their productions significantly influenced the trance scene of the 1990s. After the death of Markus Löffel, the duo era came to an end, but their musical influence remained. Jam El Mar continues to run music projects and keeps the legacy of Jam & Spoon alive - not least through compilations and remixes.
