Born November 15, 1984 in Incheon, South Korea, Huh Gak struggled through a childhood marked by family and financial difficulties. He worked as a maintenance man to supplement what income he could bring in singing until skyrocketing to fame in his home country after winning the reality television competition Superstar K2 in 2010. His debut single, âAs Alwaysâ became his first Korean chart topper. A series of successful EPs produced more hit songs including the number 1 smash âHelloâ and the top 5 hits âI Told You I Wanna Dieâ and âThe Person Who Once Loved Me.â He won multiple Best New Artist awards in 2011 and 2012, and took home the Best Solo Artist trophy at the 2011 Bugs Music Awards. Gakâs debut album, Little Giant, came out in 2013 and included the number 2 hit âMonodrama,â the number 5 single â1440,â and the number 21 hit âI Want to Love.â In addition to further solo number 1 songs like âYou Are Mineâ and 2015âs âSnow of Aprilâ, Gak scored additional number 1 hits in collaboration with Jung Eun-ji (âShort Hairâ and âBreak Up to Make Upâ) and Zia (âI Need Youâ).
