Biography

Hookworms was an English neo-psychedelic rock band from Leeds and Halifax that formed in 2010. The ensemble released its debut eponymous cassette EP (2011) before signing with the Domino Records imprint Weird World. They achieved significant critical success with their first studio album, Pearl Mystic, (2013) which was named the number 1 album of the year by publications including Loud and Quiet and BrooklynVegan. Their discography includes the studio albums The Hum (2014) and Microshift (2018). The band was also known for its live performances and released several concert recordings including Live Vol. 2 (2012). The group disbanded in 2018 following allegations of abuse against the singer Matthew Johnson. Although the legal proceedings related to these allegations were withdrawn in 2021, the ensemble did not resume activity.
