Biography

Hailing from Cabestany, not far from Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales), Marie and Lionel "Limiñana", who met in high school, saw their career take off late. Already well known on the local garage rock scene, where Lionel Limiñana played guitar in various bands for two decades, the duo had to wait until 2009 for a stroke of luck to dream bigger. While most of his musical acolytes were on tour, he composed two tracks for his brother to listen to, and took the name The Limiñanas. He then posted them on the MySpace community site and found himself approached two days later by a Chicago-based indie rock label, Trouble in Mind Records. Another label contacted the duo almost simultaneously, forcing them to write new material at a faster pace. Their underground success across the Atlantic continued between 2010 and 2014, as the duo moved their yéyé pop into darker, even psychedelic territory. Thanks to their friend Pascal Comelade, The Limiñanas finally signed with the French label Because Music, who released not only their previously released albums, but also, in 2016, Malamore, the first production available in France, which managed to rank among the best-selling French albums. This recognition broadens with the release of the Istanbul Therapy EP (2017), a preamble to the Shadow People album (2018), produced by Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and featuring contributions from Peter Hook, Emmanuelle Seigner and Bertrand Belin. The following year, the duo embarked on a novel exercise, composing for the soundtrack to the film Le Bel Été, with Étienne Daho on one track, followed by The World We Knew and a collaboration with DJ Laurent Garnier on the psychedelic De Pelicula in 2021. After a new collaboration with Comelade on Boom Boom (2023), Comelade is invited to contribute to the album Faded (2025), which also features Bobby Gillespie, John Spencer, Bertrand Belin, Rover and Anna Jean.
