Biography

Head Automatica was formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2003 by vocalist Daryl Palumbo, guitarist Craig Bonich, and drummer Larry Gorman. The trio’s early work emerged from Palumbo’s interest in hip‑hop and Britpop, diverging from his Glassjaw background. Their debut single, "Brooklyn Is Burning" (2004‑04‑13), preceded the release of the album Decadence (2004‑08‑17), which entered the Billboard 200 and the Top Heatseekers chart; the single "Please Please Please" followed in 2004. In 2005 the band issued the EP Beating Heart Baby, and in 2006 they released Popaganda, produced by Howard Benson, featuring the single "Candy Warhol" (2005‑07‑19). The group toured extensively in the United States and Europe, supporting acts such as Interpol, The Used, and Avenged Sevenfold, and appeared at festivals including Rock Am Ring. A planned third album, Swan Damage, was recorded in 2007–2009 but never released after Warner Bros. shelved it; Palumbo later withdrew from the label in 2009. The band entered a hiatus in 2012, during which Palumbo and bassist Rick Penzone formed Color Film. After a brief reunion in 2023, Head Automatica returned to the stage at Furnace Fest and released the single "Bear The Cross" in 2024, marking their first new material since 2006.
