Laughing Hyenas was an American post-hardcore band from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Formed in 1985 by vocalist John Brannon and guitarist Larissa Stolarchuk, the group released their debut EP Come Down to the Merry Go Round (1987) on Touch and Go Records, which was produced by Butch Vig at Smart Studios. Their first album You Can't Pray a Lie followed in 1989, and they later released Life of Crime (1990). They toured extensively with notable acts such as Sonic Youth. Internal frictions led to lineup changes, including the departure of Monroe and Kimball in 1991. Their final album Hard Times was released in 1995, after which they disbanded later that year. Guitarist Larissa Strickland died on October 3, 2006.
