Biography

Hanne Haller was a popular German singer in the schlager style who had established herself as a performer as well as a technical specialist and producer prior to her death in 2005. She started her musical career in 1971 with the single 'Spring in Vietnam', a joint effort with the producer Georg Moslener. The single was not commercially successful but this didn't deter Haller from pursuing a career in the music industry and so she decided to try a different approach. She enrolled on a technical course in Munich where she studied to become a sound engineer. Her training in studio craft stood her in good stead when she began composing her own material and, working in conjunction with lyricist Bernd Meinunger, she wrote a number of hits including songs performed by Czech singer Karel Gott and the well-known Austrian actor Curt Jurgens. At this time, she built up a successful career as a solo artist and had a number of hits as well as a creditable performance in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest. In 1985 she founded the band Wind but never actually performed with the band, preferring instead to have a back-room role as producer and songwriter. After the band finished second in the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest Haller's songwriting talents were in great demand and she wrote material for many leading schlager singers. After a lengthy battle with breast cancer the singer passed away in November 2005.
