Biography

Monika Martin (born May 7, 1962 in Graz) is a pop singer and folk musician from Austria. Born Ilse Bauer, she began her solo career in 1990 with the album Dafür dank ich Dir. In 1996 and 1997, Monika Martin achieved her first hits at the preliminary round of the Grand Prix of Folk Music with the songs "La luna blu" and "Immer nur Sehnsucht". In 1998, she won the ZDF Superhitparade with the song "Klinge mein Lied". The single reached number 15 and gold status in Austria. In 2006, Monika Martin achieved her final breakthrough in the German-speaking world with the album Heute fühl ich mich wie zwanzig. The album climbed to number 10 in Austria, reached number 58 in Germany and number 69 in Switzerland. After further successful albums, Monika Martin reached the top 10 in the charts in Germany (number 8) and Austria (number 2) with the album Sehnsucht nach Liebe in 2016. From then on, the artist became a regular in these regions with further releases. In 2021, the best-of album 25 Years - Her Greatest Successes is released. The album reaches number 4 in Austria and number 7 in Germany. Monika Martin continued her successful career with the album Diese Liebe schickt der Himmel in 2023. Once again, it achieves a top ranking in Germany (number 5) and Austria (number 4).
