Hélène Breschand is a French harpist, composer, and improviser born on March 18, 1966, in Paris. Born into a family of artists, Breschand began her solo career at age twenty and performs contemporary repertoire, musical theater, and improvised music. Her solo discography includes Hélène Breschand joue (1998), Le goût du sel (2006), and Les incarnés (2015). Breschand has collaborated with composers and artists including Luciano Berio, Bernard Cavanna, Elliott Sharp, Christian Marclay, and Hiroshi Sugimoto. In 2006, she performed for La Force de l'art at the Grand Palais. Breschand participated in the 2012 premiere of David Toopâs opera Star Shaped Biscuit and performed across China between 2014 and 2015. She co-authored the book La Harpe aux XXème et XXIème Siècles (2012) and teaches harp at the conservatory of the 6th arrondissement in Paris. In 2022, Breschand was appointed Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
