Biography

American singer of Puerto Rican origin, George Garcia, born in Washington on February 25, 1967, is better known as George Lamond. He grew up in his parents' hometown of Puerto Rico, then moved to New York, where he spent his teenage years. After starting his musical career as a backing singer, he signed a solo artist's contract with Columbia and immediately scored several freestyle hits. Taken from the album Bad of the Heart (1990), the title track reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Look Into My Eyes" #63 (#4 on the Hot Dance Music chart) and the duet "No Matter What", with Brenda K. Starr, reached #49 (#7 on the Latin Pop Airplay chart and #1 on Tropical Songs). These Chris Barbosa-produced tracks were followed by the second album In My Life (1992), featuring a cover of The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back", a cover of New Kids on the Block's "Baby, I Believe in You" at #66 and another hit with "Where Does That Leave Love?" (#59). The singer then turned to salsa and Latin pop with the albums Creo En Ti (1993) and Entrega (1999). After the release of the compilation The Hits...And More (1999), he went on to release further albums as an independent artist, GL in 2001 and Oye Mi Canto in 2006.
