Biography
Born in New York in 1967, the Latin-American freestyle and dance pop singer began working as a backing vocalist with producer Carlos Berrios, before launching a career under her own name. Produced by Berrios and Frankie Cutlass, "Together Forever" (1991) brought her to the top of the Billboard charts at #35, followed by "A Day in My Life (Without You)" (#49) and the album Together Forever for the Columbia-affiliated Fever Records label. In 1993, "Goody Goody" reached #53 on the Billboard charts, heralding the release of True to You (1994), which reached #100. Popular in Japan, where her songs began to enter the charts, Lisette Melendez found her best results there with the singles "Will You Ever Save Me" (1994) and "I Like the Way You Do", from the album Imagnation (1997). In 1998, the singer changed registers for the Spanish album Un Poco de Mi and its Latin hit "Algo de Mi" (No. 23 in the Hot Latin Tracks charts). Although she failed to recapture the success of her early days, the artist continued to perform alone or in collaboration with Cynthia Torres under the duo name Liscyn. In 2000, a Greatest Hits compilation of her best performances was released.
