Biography

Sweet Sensation is a dance-pop and soul music trio from The Bronx, New York City. Formed in 1985 by Betty "Dee" LeBron and sisters Margie and Mari Fernandez, the group initially gained traction with their debut single "Hooked on You" after signing to Next Plateau Records. Their first album, Take It While It's Hot, was released in 1987 under Atco/Atlantic Records and featured notable singles such as "Victim of Love (Goodbye Baby)" and "Never Let You Go", which reached Number 1 on the U.S. Dance chart. In late 1988, Mari Fernandez left the group and was replaced by Sheila Vega. The following year, Sweet Sensation released their second album, Love Child, which included their biggest hit, "If Wishes Came True", topping the Billboard Hot 100 for a week in 1990. In 1991, Margie Fernandez and Sheila Vega departed, leading to the addition of new members Belle Ritter and Jeanette "Jenae" Colón. The group disbanded in 1993 when Betty LeBron embarked on a solo career. For a short time, former members Margie, Sheila, and Mari formed their own Sweet Sensation without lead singer Betty Lebron after Margie and Mari secured the trademark. This lineup disbanded after a few shows. The official Sweet Sensation—Betty, Belle, and Jenae—returned in 2005 with the single My Body, Tu Cuerpo.
