Biography

Performer of the classic "Lookout Weekend", singer Debbie Deb was born Deborah Claire Wesoff-Kowalski in New York on March 10, 1966. Born in Brooklyn, she grew up in Miami Beach, Florida, where she met composer and producer Tony "Pretty Tony" Butler at the age of sixteen, while working in a record store. Her first single, "When I Hear Music", was a hit at No. 43 in the Black Singles (R&B) charts in 1984. The electro-freestyle track was followed the same year by "Lookout Weekend", which reached No. 26 on the American dance charts. Promoted by another younger singer on the Jam Packed label, the hit became a club classic, covered by numerous artists including Kid Sister, Janet Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelis, Jason Mraz, while Pitbull covered "When I Hear Music". Despite these successes, Debbie Deb left the music industry for a while to establish herself as a hairdresser, before returning to the Pandisc Records label in 1995 to record the album She's Back! She continued to perform occasionally, notably at freestyle revival festivals, and in 2009 recorded the single "Everytime You Come Around". In 2014, Debbie Deb collaborated with DJ Jauz on a remixed version of "When I Hear Music", then in 2015 recorded a new version of "Lookout Weekend" with DJ Reid Stefan, in the studio of composer and producer Bobby Eli.
