Biography

Geoffrey Berner, known professionally as Geoff Berner, is a Canadian singer and musician from Vancouver. Born in 1971, Berner initially studied piano before transitioning to the accordion. His first solo EP, Light Enough to Travel, was released in 2000 on Sudden Death Records. The title track was covered by The Be Good Tanyas, gaining chart success in England and boosting Berner's career. Berner's debut full-length album, We Shall Not Flag or Fail, We Shall Go On to the End, was released in 2003. His subsequent albums include Whiskey Rabbi (2005), The Wedding Dance of the Widow Bride (2007), and Klezmer Mongrels (2008). Berner's work often incorporates klezmer influences, reflecting his Jewish heritage. Notable collaborations include working with Diona Davies on violin and Wayne Adams on percussion for Whiskey Rabbi. In 2011, he released Victory Party, featuring musicians specializing in authentic klezmer music.
