Biography

An alternative rock band from Bryne, Norway, Kaizers Orchestra was formed in 2000 by longtime friends Janove Ottesen and Geir Zahl. After signing with the national label Broilerfarm, Kaizers Orchestra released its debut album, Ompa til du dør, in September 2001. Ompa til du dør peaked at Number 1 on the VG Lista chart and received the "Best Album Award" at Spellemannprisen, commonly known as the Norwegian Grammy Awards. The highest-selling rock album to be recorded in the Norwegian language, Ompa til du dør was followed by 2003's Evig pint. A third album, Maestro, was released in 2005 and maintained Kaizers Orchestra's reputation as Norwegian alt-rock royalty. The group toured heavily in support of Maestro's release and showcased its strength as a live act with the 2006 concert album Live at Vega, then topped the Norwegian charts once again with 2008's platinum-certified studio effort Maskineri. One year later, Våre demoner returned the band to Number 1. After releasing a three-volume album trilogy, Violeta Violeta, in 2011 and 2012, Kaizers Orchestra decided to amicably retire in 2013. Nearly a decade later, the group announced its reunion and reissued the 2011 single "Hjerteknuser," which peaked at Number 2 on the Norwegian Top 40 in late 2022.
