Biography

Gary Clail, born 1959 in the United Kingdom, is a British electronic music singer and record producer. Clail began his career as a roofer before moving to Bristol in the mid‑1980s, where he became a warm‑up act for On‑U Sound gigs. His first release, the single "Half Cut for Confidence" (1985), marked his entry into the club scene, followed by "Hard Left" (1986) and "Reality" (1989) in collaboration with Tackhead. In 1989 he issued the album End Of The Century Party under On‑U Sound, and the next year released Emotional Hooligan, which produced the club hit "Human Nature" that reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and charted internationally. Subsequent releases included the albums Keep The Faith (1995) and Nail It To The Mast (2014), the latter launched after forming the Gary Clail Sound System in 2013. Throughout the 1990s, Clail issued several singles and EPs, including "Another Hard Man" (1995), which entered the UK Top 100. His work with labels such as Nettwerk, Yelen Records, and RCA positioned him within the electronic underground, while collaborations with Adrian Sherwood and Mark Stewart expanded his remix portfolio. In 2022 he released Violence, continuing his contribution to electronic music.
