Biography

Concetta Gangi, known professionally as Farida, was born on September 26, 1946, in Catania, Sicily. She began her career participating in various singing contests under the pseudonym Ketty Gangi before gaining recognition at the Festival degli Sconosciuti d'Ariccia in 1966. Farida achieved her initial success with the singles "Io per lui" and "La voce del silenzio". In 1970, she participated in Cantagiro with "Pensami stasera", which led to an invitation from Czesław Niemen to perform at the Sopot International Music Festival. Farida collaborated with Renato Zero on the EP Complicità (1981) and Franco Battiato for the single "Rodolfo Valentino" (1983). After a hiatus, she returned in 2005 with the album Decisamente complici. Concetta Gangi passed away on September 30, 2024.
