Biography

Born on May 29, 1975 in Beirut, Grace Deeb grew up in a musical family who encouraged her to practice. After forming a band at the age of 14, Strangers, with friends at school, she began composing for herself, singing on the radio and performing at weddings and piano bars. Once she had completed her journalism studies, she devoted herself more intensely to her musical career, and was spotted on television in 2003 when she performed the song "In Kan Alaya" with Assi El Helani. This was followed by a meeting with Jean-Jacques Goldman, and a cover of two songs, "Comme Toi" and "Calling You", which brought her international recognition. Grace Deeb's success earned her a five-year contract with the prestigious Rotana Records label, with whom she released her debut album, Ghannali El-Alam Kello, in 2004. A commercial success, its notoriety encouraged the singer to turn to songwriting, and two further albums followed, Aktar Min Gharam (2006) and Ma Btishbah Hada (2008). Nicknamed the "Arab Dalida", the Lebanese artist represents her country abroad, where she gives numerous concerts, including at the International Book Fair in Frankfurt and the Carthage International Festival. With lyrics in Arabic, French, English, Spanish and Italian, she reaches a wide range of audiences. This audience has enabled her to champion a number of humanitarian causes and to get messages across to the general public, on the living conditions of the elderly or against breast cancer.
