Electric Sun was a German hard rock band from Hanover. Formed in 1978, the group was founded by guitarist Uli Jon Roth following his departure from the Scorpions. The original lineup included bassist Ule Ritgen and drummer Clive Edwards. The ensemble released its debut studio album, Earthquake, in 1979. Edwards left the band shortly after the recording and was replaced by drummer Sidhatta Gautama, who performed on the 1981 recording Fire Wind. The band resumed activity in 1983 with an expanded lineup for a tour of Sweden and England. In 1985, the group issued the album Beyond the Astral Skies through EMI. The ensemble performed a promotional tour of the United States consisting of more than 50 shows, which resulted in financial losses. Following a final concert on July 4, 1985, Roth retired the project in 1986 to pursue solo work under his own name.
