Biography
Michael Schenker was born on January 10, 1955 in Sarstedt, Lower Saxony. He is one of the most influential guitarists in hard rock and heavy metal. He joined the band Scorpions, founded by his brother Rudolf Schenker, at a young age and played on their debut album Lonesome Crow in 1972. Shortly afterwards, he joined the British rock band UFO, with whom he co-composed some of their best-known songs such as "Doctor Doctor" and "Rock Bottom". Schenker left UFO in 1978 and founded his own band, the Michael Schenker Group (MSG), in 1979, with which he enjoyed international success. His albums with MSG, such as Assault Attack (1982) and Built to Destroy (1983), became classics of the genre. He also worked with the McAuley Schenker Group in the 1980s and released further successful albums. Michael Schenker is recognized worldwide for his virtuoso guitar riffs and his ability to bring emotional depth to his solos. Recent releases include the albums Revelation (2019) and Immortal (2021), which continue to show Michael Schenker as a major force in rock music. With his Flying V guitar, which is often painted in black and white, Michael Schenker also sets visual accents. He is known for his unique guitar style, which often combines melodic and precise solos with powerful riffs. Alongside UFO and Scorpions, MSG remains his main project to this day. The compilation My Years with UFO will be released in September 2024.
