Biography

Dr. Calypso, a Catalan ska group from Barcelona, Spain, were formed in 1989. The band released their first self-produced cassette, Dr. Calypso, in 1990. Their debut album, Original Vol. 1, followed in 1993 under the label Tralla. Dr. Calypso gained international recognition through their inclusion on various ska compilations, such as United Colors of Ska and This Art Moon Ska Vol. 5. Notable albums include Toxic Sons (1996) and Barbarossaplatz (1999). The band toured extensively across Europe, sharing stages with prominent acts like Laurel Aitken and Toots and the Maytals. Dr. Calypso released their final album, Sempre Endavant, in 2013. The group announced their farewell tour in October 2018, concluding with a performance at Barcelona's Sala Apolo in January 2019.
