Spring Heeled Jack, a third-wave ska band from New Haven, Connecticut, was formed in 1991 by guitarist/vocalist Ron Ragona and drummer Dave Karcich. The original lineup, including John Powers, Justin Frazier, and Joe Busch, was short-lived due to Ragona's move to Boston. After returning to Connecticut, Ragona reformed the band with only Karcich from the original lineup. Their debut demo tape, Connecticut Ska, was released in 1993, followed by their first album, Static World View, in 1996 under Moon Ska Records. The band later signed with Ignition Records, resulting in the release of Songs from Suburbia. They toured extensively with bands such as Reel Big Fish and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and their video for "Pay Some Dues" received limited MTV airplay. In 2000, Spring Heeled Jack announced a hiatus, and Karcich died from a cerebral aneurysm in 2002. The band reformed full-time in 2015, releasing Sound Salvation in 2017.
