Doris D & The Pins were a Dutch-British disco and pop girl group formed in 1980. The group featured British singer and dancer Debbie Jenner, renamed Doris D, as the central figure. After performing on television as the face of the American act Lipps Inc., she was recruited by producers Hans van Hemert, Piet Souer, and Martin Duiser to front a new group. Dutch dancers Ingrid de Goede, Yvonne van Splunteren, Irene Van den Hoeven, and English dancer Dona Baron completed the lineup. The group’s breakthrough single “Shine Up” (1980) reached Number 1 on the Dutch charts, followed by “Dance On” (1981) and “The Marvellous Marionettes” (1981), which reached number 2 and number 8 in the Netherlands respectively. Their debut album Doris D & The Pins (1981) reached number 22 on the Dutch charts. Following a lawsuit, the original Pins split from Doris D to form the group Risqué, and a new lineup of British dancers was recruited, releasing the single “Jamaica” (1982), which reached number 17 in the Netherlands. Subsequent albums included Aerobic Dancing with Doris D (1983) and Starting at the End (1984), before the group disbanded in 1985.
